Whole wheat flour is an excellent source of dietary fiber. It also has protein, so it is a good choice for making bread varieties. It is one of the world’s most commonly consumed food grains.

Wheat flour is the main ingredient used in baking, making different kinds of pasta, noodles, etc.

Whole wheat flour is one of my pantry staples. I always keep a pack of whole wheat flour in my pantry.

I use whole wheat flour to make Indian bread varieties like chapattis and puris. Sometimes I use it for baking as well.

CHAPATI (Flat bread) RECIPE

Chapati made using whole wheat flour is full of dietary fiber and protein. It is easy to make and is flavorful. It can be served with vegetarian or non vegetarian curries, or can be used to make rolls with your favorite filling.

PREPARATION TIME : 20 MINUTES

COOKING TIME : 20 TO 25 MINUTES

CAN MAKE 10 TO 12 CHAPATTIS

INGREDIENTS(In a 250 ml cup)

  • 2 and a 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1 and a 1/2 cup of water
  • 3/4 teaspoon of salt or according to your taste
  • A little bit of oil to grease the pan

METHOD

  • In a mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour and salt and mix them together with a whisk.
  • Pour the water into this salt and flour mixture little by little and knead it until soft.
  • Let the dough rest on the kitchen counter for 30 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 10 to 12 small balls.
  • On a slightly floured surface, using a rolling pin roll the balls one by one thin like a tortilla.
  • Heat a heavy bottomed pan over a medium flame, when the pan is hot grease it with a little bit if cooking oil and place the chapati in it.
  • Cook it until brown spots appear on the bottom side and then flip it and cook the other side until small brown spots appear.
  • Continue the same way with the remaining dough.
  • Serve it hot with your favorite curry
