Tea is a very familiar beverage. Almost everyone has at least heard of tea and various countries have their versions of tea, it is that intertwined in our lives and cultures. After a long day, in the icy cold, or even just as a pick me up, a cup of tea is like a portable hug. Served either hot or cold, a cup of tea is familiar and friendly so it is perfect for one of those days when you need just a little bit of extra comfort.
People around the world enjoy tea in different ways. The afternoon tea is famous for the people in England, the tea ceremony in Japan says about the importance of tea for Japanese. In China tea is considered as one of the seven necessities of life. America is the number one consumer of iced tea. In India, tea is part of everyday life. You can see tea shops on every corner of the streets there.
In ancient China, tea was pressed into blocks and they were once used as a currency. There are a lot of mythical stories about the origin of tea.
Shen Nung was a Chinese emperor, scholar and herbalist. One day, he was sitting under a wild tree while his servants were boiling water to drink. At that time leaves from that tree fell into the boiling water. He decided to taste the brew and found it flavourful. His new discovery became his favorite drink.
Tea is one of my pantry staples. I like having it on rainy evenings with some snacks by my side. In summer I like to have refreshing iced tea. Citrus iced tea is one of my favorite recipes.
Here is a recipe for a simple and refreshing ginger tea
PREPARATION TIME : 5 MINUTES
MAKING TIME : 10 TO 15 MINUTES
ONE CUP OF GINGER TEA
INGREDIENTS
- 1/4 teaspoon of tea powder or 1 black tea bag
- 1 and 1/4 (250 ml cup) of water
- A small piece of ginger (say 1 inch) thinly sliced
- Required amount of sugar
METHOD
- Add the water and the ginger pieces in a sauce pan and bring it to a boil.
- When the water reaches a rolling boil, add the tea powder and simmer it for 2 minutes.
- Filter the mixture, add sugar and serve.

- Filter it, steep a tea bag in it for few minutes, add sugar and serve warm.
